One of the most important things we do at Universal Pet Hospital is support families through the end of their pet's life. This is a deeply personal time, and our team approaches it with the same care and respect we bring to every other aspect of your pet's wellbeing. Our goal is to ensure that your pet's final time is peaceful, dignified, and surrounded by the people they love. We are here for you at every step, with as much or as little guidance as you need. Please call (650) 362-7969 to speak privately with our team about end-of-life care options.
When the time comes to say goodbye, the environment matters. At Universal Pet Hospital, we provide a calm, private space and take all the time your family needs. There is no rush and no pressure. You are welcome to have family members of any age present, to bring your pet's favorite blanket or toy, and to hold your pet throughout. Our team will walk you through everything quietly and clearly so that you feel as prepared and supported as possible. We understand that this is one of the most difficult moments in the life of a pet owner, and we consider it a privilege to be part of it.
We offer two aftercare paths for families at Universal Pet Hospital. Communal cremation allows your pet's remains to be respectfully handled alongside other animals, with ashes not individually returned. Private cremation ensures your pet is cremated individually, with their ashes carefully returned to you in a container of your choice. We work with a trusted aftercare provider and will take care of the arrangements on your behalf. Our team will describe both options without pressure and answer any questions you have about the process and timeline. Memorial keepsakes may also be available. Ask us for current options.
Grief after the loss of a pet is real, and it is valid. The bond between a person and their animal companion is one of unconditional love and daily presence, and losing that leaves a genuine absence. Our team does not minimize that. We are available after your appointment to answer questions about aftercare, to provide grief support resources if you would like them, and to give you the space to feel whatever you are feeling. There is no correct way to grieve, and there is no timeline you need to meet. We are grateful to have shared part of your pet's life with you.
